What is the point of using a ceiling paint?

I have seen paint specifically sold as ceiling paint. How does this differ from wall paint? What is the point of using a ceiling paint?
its flatter than flat paint it typically does not show roll marks its typically recommended for ceilings without texture. my opinion use the same paint you use for walls i highly doubt anyone will notice. What is the point of using a ceiling paint?
Digg it, let me give you the correct answer(s). Ceiling paint is flat and brilliant or bright white. It appears as a pure white, it's ultra flat and is primarily for lighting consideration. It does hide imperfections better than a traditional white paint and gives an illusion of greater ceiling height and a larger space overall; it also brings out subtle wall colors into being more defined.

Now a premium ceiling white is tougher to work with than a cheaper one; reason being the clay content or fillers in the cheaper paints cover and hide more. Premium paints have higher Titanium Oxide levels which in effect are cleaner paints, create the brilliance, but will require more work in additional coats and backrolling to even out.

Further Suggestions. If your covering yellow use ';Glidden Gripper'; Primer/Sealer to prime this with, or you can try the Valspar Ceiling Paint that is formulated for ceiling color change (http://valspar.com/products/product/colo鈥?/a> )

I would wash the ceiling with a TSP solution and sponge if the ceilings flat to remove any residue; and if you're going to prime, I suggest you use the Gripper primer because it's really about the best readily available all around primer on the market. . . it sticks. I use the grey tinted line as it blocks out and is a neutral base for all colors and it also allows you to see the the spead, flow and coverage of the paint color you're applying. Gripper is available at Home Depot.

I will warn you not use Behr Paint or Behr's Ceiling White as it'll be the most labor intensive paint job you ever took on. If your not looking for the ';true'; ceiling white use Glidden ';Evermore'; Flat White or eggshell. . . they're both an excellent paint and look really good on ceilings. The eggshell has the features of being washable and offers excellent lighting refraction for and rooms and areas that need it.

Now, if you do want a best quality true ceiling paint use Valspar which is Lowes featured line of paints. Valspar has a great array of premium quality paints and is alway my first choice. If Lowes isn't available or convienient Ace Hardware has great ceiling paint. Use a 1-1/4'; wooly roller cover to apply paint to the ceiling and backroll out your wet edges to get a even finish.

It's usually cheap cr*p that drips a lot while you're painting. I use good quality Sherwin Williams interior paint on the ceiling.
Ceiling paint is thicker so there aren't as many drips and you get better coverage.
there is no point just crazy people being crazy
