What is the easiest way to paint a ceiling when it has that ';cottage cheese'; stuff on it?

You should scrape that stuff off... I keep telling my mother in law to scrape it off her ceiling... It's outdatedWhat is the easiest way to paint a ceiling when it has that ';cottage cheese'; stuff on it?
The pros use a sprayer and then go over it with a roller.What is the easiest way to paint a ceiling when it has that ';cottage cheese'; stuff on it?
As we don't know exactly what her house is made of, or the age, it could be stucco or texture.

Regardless, a sprayer is the way to go and do cut in work with a brush if your walls are a different shade.

If you try a roller, you will need several coats as gravity works against you when trying to get the paint between the ';bumps.';
the stuff, is not stucco, its acoustic texture. It just needs to be sprayed, you can use a roller if its been painted before and there is enough paint on the ceiling to hold the acoustic stuff on
That stuff is ';stucco'; and there are special rollers and paint to refresh it. Ask at your local paint shop.

Good Painting!!!

The Muse
We have those ceilings all throughout our house, I hate them. But we bought regular ceiling paint, a regular roller and just did 1 coat, without going over it while it's wet, just 1 coat, let it dry for a few hours, then another coat. Don't reapply at all while stll wet though because it gets too soggy and starts to fall off and stick to the roller then it looks blotchy and it's a pain. It works though, and it's easier than what everyone else is suggesting..
