Do you think Michelangelo wanted to paint the ceiling of The Sistine Capel?

I mean, when The Pope came to ask him to do it(more like commanded), do you think Michelangelo looked at The Pope like he was crazy before he did it?Do you think Michelangelo wanted to paint the ceiling of The Sistine Capel?
I do believe he wanted to do it. Bear in mind in those days, religion was more closer to heart to artist than this day and age. Like political subjects, artist tend to follow the trends of the day and use it as a platform to express their views.





I believe Michaelangelo saw this as an opportunity to express his opinions but also his beliefs.Do you think Michelangelo wanted to paint the ceiling of The Sistine Capel?
Also, don't foget the Michaelangle expected to be PAID for his work, and, the church was a very rich client, indeed.
Judging from the artistry applied in such a magnificent piece of work (dare I call it piece?), he quite possibly wanted to do it.
