Do you paint the ceiling white or what are some other attractive options?

Have mercy on a decorating newbie...

This is the kitchen and the walls will be sage green and the trim will be slightly off white.

What should I do with the ceiling?

BTW Wallpaper is not an option for any use.

ThanksDo you paint the ceiling white or what are some other attractive options?
Ok..I will be the one who is different..I have never painted a ceiling white in my life..I always chose an off white creamy colour..I think white is too stark a colour as I prefer a softer look to my ceilings and trim..so I suggest an off white to go with your sage green (great colour)..match your ceilings to your trim and you will love the look.Do you paint the ceiling white or what are some other attractive options?
I took the below quote from 'tips for painting your ceiling' at doityourself.com:

';Most often ceilings are painted white, and this is certainly a good choice, but think carefully about the kind of white you decide to go with. There are many hues available, from a warm-toned white to whites with more of a cool blue. Be sure the hue compliments the color of your walls and decor by bringing paint chips or color swatches with you when choosing your ceiling color.

If your ceilings are low, make sure you paint them a shade or two lighter than your walls to add height, and a shade or two darker if you have high ceilings. However, white doesn't have to be your only choice. Given the proper room and architecture, painting your ceiling in a contrasting color can add some excitement to your room.';
You could always stomp your ceiling. You can research this online and find a lot of information. Ceiling stomping is putting those little circles or swirls on your ceiling.

Basically, you mix drywall mud to be just thicker than paint, so it doesn't drip from the ceiling. You want to roll it on thick on the ceiling, and theres a ceiling stomping brush. You press the stomper against the ceiling and remove it to create stomp. You can put your own pattern on the ceiling, whatever you like. It tends to look pretty nice if you can manage to do it pretty good. You can also mix in paint with your mud to give it a slightly painted look. I'm in construction, and i have done it a few times, it's pretty easy.
I was taught that the floor should be the darkest color of the room and the ceiling is the lightest color. If you already have a light color on the wall I suggest some sort of white, whether it be eggshell, off white, or bright white.
I would either do the sage green or a lighter version of the same green tone for a smaller kitchen. I only do white ceilings in small and or dark rooms, especially if there is molding- with molding do a contrasting ceiling color.
Kitchen ceiling-white period-.(i always use and recommend benjamin moore super white )you want to cast a bright clean reflection over your kitchen nothing else will do .(don't worry your kitchen will turn out great -and you'll no longer give yourself the newbie status :)
you should paint your ceiling the same as the rest of the ceilings in your home. but if you do want a very nice soft white that you can also use on your trim it is a benjamin moore colour called cloud white.
Standard height ceilings always look best when painted white or a very light complementing color. Vaulted, or higher than the standard ceiling, can often use a darker color to create contrast but using it in an 8' ceiling can be very claustrophobic
